The Bea & Phally Story :: Documentary Photography {Personal Work}

This is the story of Bea & Phally. With their permission, I may try to continue their story, as this short version is not quite finished. I've provided captions under each image but no narrative at this time. In the coming days, I will add a few more images to my facebook page to tell their story. Enjoy!

A little girl looks on as Phally listens to Bea while sweeping the floor.
This is Phally's home. His mother recently sold it and he will need to find a place of his own soon.

A cargo train comes through Phally's neighborhood roughly 3 times a month.

Family portraits hang in Phally's mom's home.

Bea and Phally read the Bible almost on a daily basis.
It helps Bea with her Khmer language and allows them both to share their faith.

Reading the Bible in Khmer. Bea is fluent in Khmer and is able to read it better than write it.

Falling asleep while watching a movie at Bea's place. She currently lives with a host family.
Bea and Phally do not yet live togehter, but they look forward to being married sometime in the future.

Grabbing lunch at the market. In preparation of Phally getting his own place, they went shopping for basic household necessities.

Shopping for a wallet. The young couple is looking to organize their finances before embarking on a lifelong partnership.

 A boy is intrigued by the couple. Bea was the only white person at the market.
She is a tough negotiater and makes sure she gets a fair deal.

"You know you like my street."
Bea & Phally are discussing the available single room options for rent in the same neighborhood where Phally currrently resides.

A prospective room for rent on the 2nd floor.
The landlady goes over the room amenities. This room is considered large with a private bath and the rent is at a premium price.
There is no a/c and utilties are extra. They really like it, the aesthetics and size are much better than what they had been seeing previously. Unfortunately, this room ended up getting rented to the landlady's family who are moving to Phnom Penh. The search continues.
Residents "people watch" outside of their homes as the sun sets.

Railroad Tracks :: Phnom Penh Street Photographer {Personal Work}

Recently, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in a local neighborhood where some old railroad tracks run through. Suprisingly, a cargo train does come through 3-4 times a month. I'm really enjoying shooting a different style and genre of photography and I look forward to exploring it more. Another project related to this neighborhood is in the works, which I hope to be able to share soon!

Loving Trio : Phnom Penh Family Photographer {Personal Work}

Tony and Nathalie were really easy to photograph as you can see :) Their little bundle of joy is just about 9 weeks new and growing beautifully. Their home had nice big windows with light floodig in, which made for beautiful photographs. Shooting indoors I find is always more challenging because of space and light limitations. I'm starting to realize it is really hard to make yourself shoot differently than what you are used to, style-wise that is ;)  Enjoy!
